If you color right before bed, there is also another benefit: it means that you are not looking at your phone or computer right before bed. Studies have shown that the blue light from a computer screen or a phone screen inhibits the production of the hormone melatonin, which is the hormone that regulates sleep and lets us go to bed at night. Low levels of melatonin are associated with a variety of health problems, from insomnia to obesity. If you can replace your before‐bed phone habit with a before‐bed coloring habit, you can potentially benefit from increased levels of melatonin, better sleep, and a healthier circadian rhythm.
The positive and negative aspect of the split complementary color model is that you can use any two colors in the scheme and get great contrast, but that also means it can also be tricky to find the right balance between the colors. As a result, you may end up playing around with this one a bit more to find the right combination of contrast. No matter which color scheme you choose, try and keep in mind what your graphic needs. If you need to create contrast, then choose a color scheme that gives you that. On the other hand, if you just need to find the best "versions" of certain colors, then play around with the monochromatic color scheme to find the perfect shades and tints.
Unlike a marker, children can color lightly or very dark by exerting more pressure. The proprioceptive system comes into play when a child attempts to vary the amount of pressure they are exerting through the crayon. Coloring with markers just doesn′t provide that resistive feedback that coloring with a waxy crayon does. Markers are smooth and don′t give kids the sensory input that help with learning letters. For a fun twist on letter formation activities, grab a box of crayons! Encourage children to shade and combine colors by being aware of how lightly or darkly they are coloring. There is also that crayon scent that children are aware of, either consciously or unconsciously. If you recall the scent of crayons from your childhood, then you know what I′m talking about here!
It′s not just the choice of colors but the combination of colors which aids memory. Opting for shades that create an eye‐catching contrast is more visually stimulating and helps the brain to retain information. Generally speaking, the higher the level of contrast the more attention‐grabbing a piece of work will be. Just keep in mind that too many colors can be both chaotic and distracting, while too much of one color can have an adverse effect on memory recall too much yellow, for instance, is known to provoke headaches which is the last thing your child needs whilst revising.
