Make signs with a large capital first letter and smaller case following and post them around the home; Bathroom, Refrigerator, Door, Mirror, Dog's bed, Cat toy, etc. Ask the child every time you pass a sign, "what does that say?" until they are 100% correct. Play games with letters, putting the word of the day on the refrigerator door with magnetic ones, and playing and arranging letters on a table. Write or trace the letters on paper and then have the child think of as many words as he can that have that sound. Play games about animals, food or flowers; asking how many the child can think of that start with a certain letter. Rhyming word games are great learning tools.
As you may or may not know, letters and sounds are the basics of reading properly. There are plenty of rules in the English language that applying and often are subject to exceptions. This can really lead to a lot of confusion with young readers. Obviously, you must have already heard of phonics books and worksheets that simplify learning to read. If not, then you should definitely do the research and educate yourself accordingly. It will make all the difference in how well your child will read and have a good understanding of the language.
Kindergarten ABC worksheets should have different activities to help children identify the various letters of the alphabet. The activities may involve very simple things like coloring, ticking, drawing a line to match items etc. Using attractive illustrations and cartoon characters would make it more fun for children. The activities should be graded, i.e initial activities should be very simple and easy (but should be fun with good pictures etc, so as to interest the child); later worksheets may involve a little bit more work.
